Last week our students had the opportunity of experiencing the practical side of gold panning. We travelled to Bathurst via the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves. Unfortunately the three sisters were totally covered in fog. However, the Lucas cave was cool and spectacular. The girls slept in a very comfortable motel, ate delicious meals, sang bush songs, danced the night away and finally slept! On the next day they learnt about life on the goldfields and in the mines, explored the museum, played games, made damper and explored the camp site. We all found gold and were able to take our samples home. The trip was very worthwhile and the girls were well behaved. Thank you everyone for helping to complete our study of gold.

That is sad that you didn’t see the Three Sisters! What did you get to see? A 14 hour trip is a very long one! I would have thought you would need to stay longer to see all the wonderful things available at Bathurst!
Awesome! Our school got to do this too. We had a less fun time, as we didn’t sleep in motels or anything like that. We didn’t see the Three Sisters or caves of any kind. Our trip was 14 hours long, that was all. Your class must be so lucky! ^-^
This sounds like a remarkable experience! It’s one thing to read and discuss, but quite another to pan for gold yourself and talk to experts in person!
My class and I are new to blogging. We have been visiting your blog and invite you to visit ours:

Once again, excited to hear of this unique experience!

It was such a pleasure to take you girls to the Bathurst Goldfields. Just seeing the looks on your faces when panning told us you were having fun! Well done girls!
Bathurst, Jenolan caves and the Blue Mountains all in one excursion. It was such fun and exciting. I never realised how hard it was to pan for gold. I found 2 specks of gold!! Thankyou teachers, for such a wonderful day.

Thank You to all the Year 5 Teachers and the others that came along, for taking great care of me for the 36 hours. It was an absolute privilege and experience for me but unfortunately the sky wasn’t so great at the Three Sisters.
I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
