Life on the Goldfields

Over the last few weeks our Year 5 students have been studying units on Gold, rocks and minerals. The girls have been required to collaborate together to research the work of various characters who lived at the time of the gold rush era in Australia and present their findings to the whole group. The girls were able to negotiate how they were going to present their material and last week they made their presentations. It was wonderful to see them use a variety of ways to inform their peers.  The girls had to plan their work and think up questions to answer regarding their characters. Some used drama and ventured back in time. Others used interactive software tools like Prezzies and Power Point to reveal their research. Each group was different and they all showed insight into the life of their particular character. We learnt about the women and children, the indigenous people and Chinese, life of the diggers, bushrangers and the Eureka rebels. Well done girls!  I know we all came away a little richer for the information relayed!
